The Maternity Session

Your comfort is most important, please be assured that this is myh priority during our maternity session. I strive to not only capture beautiful moments for you and your spouse, but also to make the experience enjoyable and comfortable. As a woman and mother, I understand the strong desire for your portraits to be as flattering as possible during your pregnancy.

Our style is to get some natural shots, such as near a window. If you’d like to go outside for a more natural feel or head into town for an urban setting, let me know. I love to combine maternity sessions with a bit of a engagement style. It’s doesn’t have to be all about the belly. Your spouse and children are more than welcome to join you for portraits as well.

Please do not wear anything with elastic on your belly for a few hours before your session. The elastic can leave unflattering markings on your belly. Watches and some other jewellery can have this same effect. Don’t forget about your feet! Tight socks can leave marks too; consider wearing flip-flops to your session.

If you’re concerned about what to wear, our suggestion is to keep to your comfort level. Tighter tee shirts that reveal the shape of your belly always work well and low cut jeans (without the maternity band) are the perfect compliment. Spaghetti strapped white tank tops and matching boy cut underwear allow for a revealing show of your body’s beautiful shape, while still maintaining a sense of privacy. If you’d like your photos to have a more contemporary, urban feel, try bringing some pieces that have a bit of flair or color. Cardigans, hoodies, or mens’ white dress shirts can all be put on without buttoning over the tummy. This gives a cute, playful look. Try to bring along a few color choices of under garments and if possible, a strapless bra. Should you request nude photographs, we can pose you in a way that is flattering while still maintaining certain discretion. All in all, your comfort determines what clothing pieces we will use.
